solar pv - electricity generationPhotovoltaics or PV’s work by converting the energy from the sun into electricity by means of semi conductors. In simple terms the solar energy excites electrons so that they break free from their atoms, allowing the electrons to flow through the semiconductor material to produce electricity.
Solar PV cells can be arranged in a series of panels on a roof or wall, or part of the building façade and feed their electricity directly into the building for use as lighting or power through the use of an inverter.
Plug and play multi contact connectors allow for easy and effective installation of the PV system, and the inverter provides amongst many others, mains diagnostics, electrical isolation, over voltage protection. Renewable Energies can also provide technical assistance on a range of stand alone solar PV systems, such as road signage, canal or car park lighting etc, and are currently working with a number of agencies in Northern Ireland to develop stand alone systems in areas where it is difficult to obtain power for lighting etc.
