Biomass & Wood Fuelled/Pellet Boilers

Wood burning systems are unique when compared to other forms of renewable energy.
As wood grows it absorbs the same amount of CO2 as is released when burnt. Wood pellet is manufactured as a by-product from the timber industry, using wood chippings and sawdust. This is processed into highly efficient wood pellets as a fuel for burning in domestic and commercial boiler systems.

We have partnered with the world’s leading manufacturers of wood pellet boilers, Italian company Jolly-Mec, and Danish company Linka, to provide wood pellet boiler solutions up to 10MW.

Renewablenergies also work closely with Balcas Timber in Co. Fermanagh who are recognised as the leading experts within the pellet manufacturing industry. Balcas are currently developing a £9m combined heat and power plant at their sawmill in Co. Fermanagh, which will result in the UK’s largest production facility for a new environmentally friendly fuel, a viable alternative to oil and gas.

The plant will produce 50,000 tonnes of fuel pellets a year, enough to meet the company's own energy requirements and power 10,000 homes.

Balcas estimate that inside the next decade, bio fuel pellets could deliver the energy for a quarter of new rural homes in Northern Ireland. In addition, the on-site processing of sawdust and wood chips could eliminate 10,000 heavy truck journeys each year from the roads of Northern Ireland - equivalent to 1.5 million truck miles.
